Measuring Success

Custom Gardens was honored this past week by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce.  We received the first Growing Business Award.  Growth was measured not just by numbers, but by services and other measures of success such as repeat clients.

I have been thinking about how one measures success in very concrete ways and came up with the following:

Success is getting all of your garden tools, plants, and crew into your CRV.

Success is getting jobs for which your CRV is too small so that you plants and topsoil have to be delivered.

Success is getting a truck and learning how to drive it.

Success is having crew who come back year after year who have the same high standards as you do.

Success is using the truck to go farther afield to area growers to select the best plants, trees, and shrubs for your clients.

Success is buying a little car so you don’t have to take the truck everywhere.

Success is having crew drive the truck so you can go to see new clients.

Success is being able to fit plants into the  car so you can pick them up while the truck is at a large project.

What are your measures of success?
